Who recently followed this account
Instagram shows an account’s followers only to people who are logged in, as one long list. There’s no date next to anyone and no way to tell who arrived since last week.
FollowGlance reads the newest followers of a public account and lays them out with names and photos. Followers who are new since the last check get a New label and the time we first saw them, so a sudden wave of new followers is easy to spot.
Recent followers are part of the unlocked report. Search the account for free first: you’ll see its profile and newest follows. Then unlock it for 1 credit to add its newest followers, about 25 per check, and everything else in the report.
Recent followers vs recent follows
These two get mixed up all the time:
- Recent followers are people who started following the account. The account didn’t do anything; others did.
- Recent follows are accounts the account itself started following. That’s on the recently followed on Instagram page.
An unlocked report has both lists, each with its own New labels.
Why new followers matter
For creators
A jump in followers after a post tells you something worked. Seeing who they are, other creators, brands or fans, tells you why.
For brands
New followers on a competitor’s account often come from a campaign or a creator’s shout-out. Their newest followers show you who that campaign reached.
For agencies and researchers
A creator whose new followers are mostly empty accounts, with no photo and no posts, may be buying followers. Real audiences look like real people.
For your own account
Instagram tells you about new followers in notifications, but they scroll away fast. A daily email with your newest followers keeps them in one place.
Keep up with new followers
After you unlock an account, turn on daily email alerts. We check it once a day and email you its new followers along with its new follows. The unlock includes 30 days of alerts, 1 credit adds 30 more, and you can have alerts on for up to 10 accounts at a time.
What you can’t see
- Followers of private accounts.
- The whole follower list of a big account: we read the newest, about 25 per check.
- Who unfollowed the account. Lost followers aren’t tracked.
- The exact time someone followed. Instagram doesn’t publish it; we show when we first saw them.
For new followers since your last check in particular, see Instagram new followers. Brands and agencies can find more ideas in Instagram follow tracking for brands and creators.
Questions
How do I see my recent followers on Instagram?
In the app, new followers show up in your notifications. For a list you can come back to, with New labels, check your own username here. It works if your account is public.
Can I see someone else’s recent followers?
Yes, if the account is public. Unlock its report to see its newest followers, about 25 per check, with New labels on followers since the last check.
Why did Instagram remove the Following activity tab?
Instagram removed it in 2019, saying people were often surprised to find their likes and follows on show there. Since then there’s been no built-in way to see someone else’s new activity.
Can I see recent followers without logging in?
Yes. FollowGlance never asks for an Instagram login. You do sign in to FollowGlance to unlock a report, which is where the followers list is.
Does this show unfollowers too?
No. FollowGlance shows new followers and new follows, but it doesn’t track who stopped following an account.
How far back does it go?
Each check reads the newest followers, about 25. Older followers further down the list aren’t included, so for a busy account, check more often or turn on daily alerts.
Can I see recent followers of a private account?
No. Private accounts show their followers only to approved followers, and we check public accounts only.
Is there a way to sort followers by date?
Instagram doesn’t show follow dates. FollowGlance lists the newest followers first and shows when we first saw each new one, which is the closest you can get.
Does it work for business accounts?
Yes. Business, creator and personal accounts all work, as long as they’re public.
Is it free?
The free check shows the profile and the newest 2 follows. Recent followers are in the unlocked report, which costs 1 credit, with packs from $6.99 and no subscription.
