Track followers over time
A follower count goes up and down, but it never says who. A follower tracker answers the more useful question: which people started following this account, and when did they show up?
FollowGlance tracks the newest followers of any public Instagram account. The first check saves a starting point. Every check after that is compared with the last one, so new followers stand out with a New label and the time we first saw them. Turn on daily email alerts and the comparison happens for you, once a day.
What the follower tracker shows
Start with a free check. It shows the account’s profile, its follower and following counts and its newest 2 follows. Unlock the account for 1 credit, and the report adds:
- Newest followers. About 25 of the most recent followers per check, each with a name and photo.
- New labels. Followers who weren’t there at the last check, with the time we first saw them.
- Newest follows. Up to about 100 accounts the profile followed most recently, with their own New labels.
- Who engages most. The accounts that like and comment most on its newest posts.
- Possible second accounts. Related profiles that look tied to the same person or brand.
- Account details. The year it joined and the country it’s based in, when Instagram shows them.
An unlocked account stays unlocked. Checking it again is free, up to 30 times a day, and the report waits for you in My reports.
Followers you gained (and what we don’t track)
The tracker is built around what an account gains: new followers and new follows. Here’s what it can and can’t tell you.
- It can show who started following the account since the last check, as long as they’re among its newest followers.
- It can’t show who stopped following. Lost followers aren’t tracked, so a falling count won’t come with names.
- It reads the newest followers, about 25 per check. A big account can gain more than that in a day. For those, check more often or turn on alerts, and you’ll catch most of the new arrivals.
- Times are first-seen times. Instagram doesn’t publish when someone followed. We show when we first saw them, and the time gets closer to the truth the more often the account is checked.
We’d rather tell you this up front than sell you a number we can’t back up.
Follower tracker vs follower list viewer
A viewer shows a list once. A tracker remembers it.
| Follower tracker | Follower list viewer | |
|---|---|---|
| Shows the newest followers | Yes | Yes |
| Remembers the last check | Yes | No |
| Marks who’s new | Yes, with a New label | No |
| Daily email alerts | Yes | No |
| Best for | Changes over days and weeks | A one-time look |
On FollowGlance they’re the same report: look once, or keep checking and it becomes a tracker. See the Instagram follower list viewer for the one-time look.
Who uses it
Creators
After a collab or a post that took off, see who the new followers are. Other creators and brands in your niche among them is a very good sign.
Brands and marketers
A competitor’s newest followers show who their latest campaign reached. And when a creator you’re about to hire gains a wave of empty accounts overnight, you’ll see that too.
Agencies
Track the creators you work with and check that their audiences grow with real people. The guide to Instagram follow tracking for brands and creators has more on this.
Your own account
Instagram notifications mix new followers with likes and comments. A daily email with just your new followers is easier to read, and easier to come back to.
Follower tracker vs other ways to track
| FollowGlance | Checking by hand | Apps that ask for your login | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Instagram password needed | No | Yes, to open the app | Yes |
| Shows who’s new | Yes | Only if you remember | It varies |
| Risk to your account | None, we never log in | None | Can get your account limited |
| Works on someone else’s account | Yes, if it’s public | Yes, if it’s public | Often only your own |
| Price | Free check, one-time unlock | Free | Often a plan that renews |
Apps that ask for your Instagram username and password act as you inside Instagram. That can break Instagram’s rules and get your account limited. FollowGlance never asks for either.
How to read a list of new followers
A few patterns are worth knowing:
- Lots of accounts with no photo and no posts often means bought followers or bots.
- Several creators from the same niche at once usually follows a collab or a mention.
- Brand accounts arriving after a post can mean a deal is being explored.
- A spike that fades from the count a week later is often follow-for-follow accounts that unfollowed again.
Patterns are hints, not proof. Open a few of the profiles before you decide what a list means.
Why check more than once
One check is a photo. Two checks are a comparison. The first time an account is checked, there’s nothing to compare it with, so you see its newest followers but no New labels yet. From the second check on, everyone who arrived in between is marked.
That’s also why the time next to a new follower is honest about what it is. If an account is checked every day, a follower marked “first seen 5 hours ago” followed some time in the last day. If it’s checked every hour, the window is an hour. Daily alerts give you a steady rhythm without having to remember.
Tracking your own account
Your own account works the same way, as long as it’s public. Unlock it once and turn on daily alerts, and you get one email a day with the people who started following you, instead of digging through notifications. Unlocking your own account costs the same 1 credit as any other.
If your account is private, we can’t read its followers: Instagram keeps them for the people you approved. The app’s notifications are the only place to see them.
Is it safe to use?
For you, yes. You never give us your Instagram login, and we never act on Instagram as you. For the account you check: we only read what it made public, nothing is sent to it, and it isn’t notified. Our Privacy Policy explains what we store and for how long.

Questions
How do I track my Instagram followers?
If your account is public, type your username at the top of this page and unlock your report. Check again later, or turn on daily alerts, and new followers get a New label.
Can I see who unfollowed me?
Not with FollowGlance: it shows who’s new, not who left. To find lost followers, download your follower list from Instagram’s Accounts Center on two dates and compare the two files.
Does the tracker need my password?
No. FollowGlance never asks for your Instagram username or password. Be wary of any tracker that does.
Can I track someone else’s followers?
Yes, if the account is public. Unlock its report to see its newest followers, then check again or turn on alerts to see who’s new.
How often is the data updated?
Whenever the account is checked. On an unlocked report you can check again up to 30 times a day, or let daily alerts check it once a day.
Can I track followers of a private account?
No. Private accounts show their followers only to approved followers. We check public accounts only, and a private one is never charged.
Is there a free Instagram follower tracker?
The check is free: the profile, its counts and the newest 2 follows. The followers list and tracking come with an unlock: 1 credit, with packs from $6.99 and no subscription.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. It works in any phone browser. Copy a profile link in the Instagram app, paste it here and press Check follows.
Can I export my follower history?
Not yet. Your unlocked reports stay in My reports, and the alert emails keep a record of each day’s new followers in your inbox.
Why does my follower count not match?
Counts change all the time, and Instagram removes spam accounts from time to time, which can drop a count without anyone choosing to unfollow. Our list shows the newest followers, not every follower.
Is it safe to use?
Yes. You never share your Instagram login, and we only read public information. The account you check isn’t notified.
Does Instagram have a built-in follower tracker?
No. Instagram shows your follower count and sends notifications about new followers, but it keeps no history and shows nothing about who’s new on other accounts.
