No. Instagram doesn’t tell anyone when you look at their following list, their followers or their profile. What can give you away are the things you do while logged in, like following, liking or watching a story.
What doesn’t notify anyone
These are silent. The account gets no alert:
- opening their profile
- scrolling through their Following or Followers list
- searching for their name
- looking at their posts and reels without liking or commenting
- taking a screenshot of their profile or lists
Professional accounts can see how many profile visits they got, as a number. They can’t see who visited.
What does leave a trace
These show up for the other person, usually with your name:
| What you do | What they can see |
|---|---|
| Follow them | A notification, and you in their followers |
| Like or comment | A notification, and your name on the post |
| Watch their story | Your name in their list of story viewers |
| Join their live video | Your name in the live viewer list |
| Send a message | The message, and when you’ve read theirs |
| Tag or mention them | A notification |
How a FollowGlance check works
FollowGlance doesn’t use your Instagram account at all. You type a username, and we read the account’s public profile and lists through a data provider. We don’t follow, like, message or log in as anyone, so nothing is sent to the account.
You don’t need an Instagram account to use it, and we never ask for your password. Your checks are linked only to your FollowGlance account, if you have one, and we never share them with the account you checked.
The newest 2 follows are free to see, and 1 credit unlocks the full report.
A few honest limits
- Private accounts stay private. We only check public ones.
- Exact follow times aren’t public. We show when we first saw each new follow.
- Instagram can change. This page describes how Instagram works in October 2026. If it adds new notifications, we’ll update it.
Be kind
Looking at public follows is common. Still, use what you see with care, and never to pressure or harass anyone. Our acceptable use policy sets out the rules.
